President Salva Kiir Mayardit attends Somalia's signing of treaty to formally join East African Community
President Salva Kiir Mayardit, who couples as the Chair of EAC regional bloc, arrived in Uganda on Friday 15th December on a one day visit for the signing ceremony of Somalia's accession to the East African Community. On Friday 15th December 2023,Somalia was formally admitted as the 8th member state of the East African community (EAC), three weeks after being approved at a leaders’ summit in Arusha, Tanzania.
The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace, Entebbe. In attendance were the host President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Sheik Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Secretary General of EAC secretariat, and Diplomatic members.
