South Sudan History
The Republic of South Sudan is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered by Ethiopia, Sudan, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and Kenya.
South Suda gained independence from Sudan on 9th July 2011 following 98.83% support for independence in a January 2011 referendum, making it the youngest country in the world. And in April 2016, the Republic of South Sudan become the 6th Member of the East African Community (EAC).
South Sudan Geography
South Sudan is a mix of plains, plateaus, and mountains. The central region is mostly flat with vast swampland like the Sudd formed by the White Nile Baḥr al-Jabal section. But the country contains highland areas, especially around its periphery.
The country includes the vast swamp region of the Sudd, formed by the White Nile and known locally as the Bahr al Jabal, meaning "Mountain River". Mount Kinyeti has the highest peak in the country that stands at 3,187 meters (10,456 ft) in height.
